STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Students should obtain a copy of the Student Handbook and refer to it for additional information regarding the grading system, withdrawals, exemptions, class assignments, missed tests and exams, supplemental privileges, and academic dishonesty. Students are required to apply themselves diligently to the course of study, and to prepare class and homework assignments as given.
Regular attendance, though not mandatory, is strongly
advised, since 10% of the total mark is based on participation. Past student performance shows a strong relationship between regular attendance and success.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This elective or mandatory General Education course aims to enhance students' understanding of
themselves and the society in which they live, through an examination of contemporary
social issues. Concomitantly, the course is designed to improve students' oral presentation skills.
Students will sharpen their critical thinking
skills. As well, they will learn strategies for effective
oral presentations; learn about the impact of the non-verbal aspects of communication; and
enhance listening and evaluating skills.
