Module 3: Curriculum and Course Design

Introduction

Last week you looked at the "big picture" in terms of broader issues affecting the process of curriculum design. (Note: This week on curriculum design will be made available to you at the end of the course.)
This week we will address more specific ideas related to program and course development, course outlines, and Learning Outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

When you have completed this module, you will have addressed the learning outcomes:

Analyze the context of post secondary education within Ontario;

Design a curriculum framework that reflects program or course learning outcomes.

Learning Activities

1. Read on-line course notes related to the following:

2. Read Chapter 1 "Preparing or Revising a Course" pp. 3-12 in Tools for Teaching by Barbara Gross Davis.

3. Read Article from print materials called, "Choosing Outcomes of Significance," by William Spady.

Conference Discussion Topics

Learning Partners

With your learning partner, construct one learning outcome statement related to a course or training session with which you are involved. Use the criteria for constructing learning outcomes from your course notes. Post the learning outcome statement to the conference under the heading "Learning Outcomes" by November 24, and comment on one other learning outcome in relation to the criteria for constructing outcome statements
Conduct a web search related to any topic of your choice involving adult learning. Post your findings to the conference system under the heading, "Adult Learning Web Search" by November 25, 1997.
